“I’m not there yet.” is a common answer given when a Christian is admonished to do what the Bible teaches them to do--especially in the area of faith.
This excuse is accepted by the church in general, but in reality, it won’t fly. Getting you to where you ought to be is part of God’s plan of salvation. In fact, you can’t go until you get there.
That’s right. For those who say, “I’m not there yet,” I say, then get saved or receive the Lord, or repent and ask forgiveness or whatever terms you use for entering into God’s plan.
Because when God called for repentance and believing in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus in order to be reconciled to Him and be His child again, He was getting you ready. Once you do that, you are ready to hear, receive, and do what the Word of God teaches you to do.
Through your acceptance of the work of the cross, God prepared your heart to trust and obey Him. That’s what you need to be ready. You need to know that God is your Father, Jesus is your Lord, and you are saved by grace and have entered into a new life--a life of faith in God.
To be reconciled to God means that you have been brought back into right relationship with Him and that is a Father/child relationship. In America, many children do not obey their father, but in God’s kingdom, His children obey Him. They don’t think about it. They don’t decide whether they will or won’t, they obey Him because He is Father--He is their caregiver, their guardian, and authority.
